Ford’s Strategic Overhaul Amid EV Shift
Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is pivoting away from its electric vehicle (EV) ambitions, following a $19.5 billion charge. The automaker plans to refresh 80% of its North American portfolio by 2029, focusing on popular models like the Bronco and Mustang while also developing affordable options in response to rising average vehicle prices.
The company anticipates launching a Bronco hybrid in 2027, followed by a Bronco-based pickup later in the decade. Additionally, Ford aims to introduce a $25,000 hybrid crossover and five vehicles priced under $40,000 by the end of the decade, with a goal of half its global volume being hybrid, EV, or extended range by 2030.
This overhaul comes at a critical time as average new vehicle prices remain high, leading to increased loan lengths and repossessions. Ford’s strategy includes improving margins through fresh product offerings and addressing the vehicle affordability crisis, all while maintaining quality and value.
