**Sugar Prices Show Mixed Trends Amid Production Concerns**
On Wednesday, October NY world sugar #11 (SBV26) rose by 1.85%, closing at +0.32, while October London ICE white sugar #5 (SWV26) decreased by 0.58%, settling down -3.00. The fluctuations in sugar prices follow reports of a significant production decline in France, with the French sugar association projecting a drop exceeding 20% this year below the five-year average, primarily due to ongoing drought conditions.
In India, sugar refiners are expected to divert 350,000 metric tons into the local market to alleviate supply constraints, undercutting the previously approved import quota of 1 million metric tons. This comes as the Indian government has announced plans to cut import duties on sugar to manage rising domestic demand ahead of the festival season. Concerns about potential global production disruptions due to an emerging El Niño weather pattern have further fueled market speculation, indicating tighter future sugar supplies.
