Peter Thiel’s Recent Investments in AI-Related Stocks

Peter Thiel’s hedge fund, Thiel Macro, resumed activity in Q2 2023, investing over $418 million across eight new positions, all centered on the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. The largest allocations included Amazon (28% of the portfolio, nearly $118 million), Vista Energy (18%, about $76 million), and Vistra (14%, roughly $59.1 million).

Significant insights from Thiel’s investment strategy highlight a focus on power-related companies. For example, American Electric Power, with a network covering 40,000 miles, has increased its five-year capital spending plan by $6 billion to $78 billion and projects growth to 69 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, up from an earlier estimate of 63 GW.

Other companies in Thiel’s portfolio include DTE Energy, FirstEnergy, and CMS Energy, which are positioned to benefit from the growing demand for electricity due to AI and climate-driven needs. The strategy suggests a bet on the necessity of increased power supply to support the ongoing AI revolution.
