Investor Moves in AI Chip Market

Stanley Druckenmiller, chairman of Duquesne Family Office, made significant investment shifts by selling his positions in two major AI chipmakers, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), in 2024. His early investment in Nvidia in late 2022 reportedly earned him hundreds of millions before he exited the position. Furthermore, he fully divested Broadcom last quarter and acquired substantial stakes in Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL).

Druckenmiller’s strategy seems to pivot towards hyperscalers, as both Amazon and Alphabet are increasing control over their own data centers and investing heavily in custom chip designs. Amazon’s new Trainium chips and Alphabet’s TPUs are expected to dominate their respective data centers. Despite facing negative cash flow—$7.6 billion for Amazon and $5.9 billion for Alphabet—both companies have sizable backlogs, totaling $496 billion and $514 billion respectively, signaling future demand and investment returns.
