Global AI Infrastructure Investment on Track for $800 Billion in 2023

Tech companies are projected to invest approximately $800 billion in AI infrastructure this year, with research from McKinsey & Co. forecasting global AI capital expenditures (capex) to reach $7 trillion by 2030. Goldman Sachs predicts that the actual investment figure could be closer to $1 trillion for 2023, highlighting that most estimates fail to account for spending by private AI companies and firms outside the U.S., particularly in Asia. The investment momentum in AI is seen as one of the largest infrastructure build-outs in modern history.

In 2023, global spending on AI is expected to surpass initial projections by over $200 billion, with significant contributions from companies like Nvidia, which leads the AI market with strong revenue growth and ongoing international partnerships. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is also expanding its footprint, expecting at least $15 billion in data center revenue by 2029, with nearly half of its 2025 revenues coming from China.
