Amazon vs. Microsoft: Cloud Growth Insights
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is leading the cloud computing market with a growth rate that has accelerated to 37% in the latest quarter, up from 28% just one quarter prior. This positions AWS as the faster-growing segment compared to Microsoft Azure, which reported 43% growth but with less acceleration, showing rates of 40% and 39% over the previous quarters.
As of Q2, AWS’s operating margin stood at 39%, significantly boosting Amazon’s profits as it expands. In contrast, Microsoft does not disclose Azure’s operating margins, but it is suggested to be lower, which could negatively impact Microsoft’s overall profitability relative to its growing revenues.
Both companies are making substantial investments in cloud capacity; however, the data indicates that AWS is positioned for greater profit growth, making it an attractive investment compared to Microsoft.
