**Tesla Shares Plummet Following Cybercab Reveal and Safety Audit**

Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) saw its shares drop by 6% on September 4, 2026, after a lackluster Cybercab launch event failed to provide key details on pricing and production, while also prompting a safety audit by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA is investigating Tesla’s self-certification of the Cybercab, which reportedly operates without standard safety features such as a steering wheel and pedals.

In the wake of the Cybercab event, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also experienced declines, falling by 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively. Tesla’s current price-to-earnings ratio exceeds 320, a figure that reflects heavy reliance on unproven technologies and delayed timelines for future developments.
