Key Points
The three largest cloud computing providers—Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG, NASDAQ: GOOGL), and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)—command two-thirds of the market share. In Q2, Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported a 37% year-over-year revenue growth, while Google Cloud’s revenue surged by 82%, showcasing the highest growth among the trio. Microsoft Azure grew by 43%, but its growth rate has remained relatively stable, raising concerns.
Amazon and Alphabet are also outperforming Microsoft in terms of operating income growth. Google Cloud’s operating margin improved to 36%, while Microsoft’s overall profits are growing more slowly despite significant investments in AI. Analysts suggest that without an acceleration in Azure’s growth, Microsoft may fall further behind its competitors.
