Hogs Suffer Setbacks on Monday

Lean hog futures experienced a mixed day on Monday, with October futures rising by a slight 0.025 to close at $78.250, while December and February futures fell by 0.625 and 0.950 respectively. The USDA reported a national base hog price increase of 54 cents, reaching $79.22, while the CME Lean Hog Index dropped by 44 cents to $81.76.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value improved by $1.06 to $87.80, with the belly primal being the only cut reporting lower. On Monday, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 491,000 head, which is 26,000 more than the previous Monday and 2,791 higher compared to the same week last year.
