Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY) is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its drug development process, aiming to significantly reduce clinical trial timelines. The company reports that its “Predict First” approach has already cut the time from lead optimization to toxicology work by 20%, and it anticipates shortening clinical trials by two to three years, where a single trial can cost hundreds of millions. AI now informs virtually all its small-molecule drug programs, up from just 5% in 2021.

In its second-quarter 2026 results, Bristol-Myers’ revenue increased 6% year-over-year to $13 billion, with a 40% rise in adjusted earnings per share to $2.04. Despite these encouraging figures, the company’s stock trades at just 10 times estimated earnings, reflecting a 65% discount relative to the S&P 500. This valuation disparity has been noted as the widest in over three decades, indicating potential for significant investment opportunities as the market gradually acknowledges the company’s AI initiatives.

Moreover, Bristol-Myers has partnered with Nvidia to build advanced AI infrastructure, which includes a “SuperPOD” designed to provide ten times more computing power. The company is also integrating Anthropic’s Claude Enterprise platform across its operations, which will enhance its research capabilities in multiple therapeutic areas. This strategic use of AI in pharmaceuticals represents a notable trend in the industry, with the potential to improve profitability and drive stock performance moving forward.
