Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) reportedly paid a fine of $13.65M, imposed by Russia’s federal anti-monopoly service (FAS) for allegedly abusing its position in the in-app payment market.

According to Reuters, the tech giant paid the hefty fine on Jan. 19, and the funds were promptly transferred to Russia’s federal budget, per FAS.

It’s rather intriguing that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Apple, along with other American tech companies, halted sales and exports to the country amid a boycott over the action. Meanwhile, Russia has continually referred to the invasion as a “special military operation.”

Similarly, Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) has faced challenging times in Russia in recent years surrounding its handling of products and services.

Last December, a Russian court fined Google approximately $50.84M for failing to remove “fake” information about the war in Ukraine. Moreover, in several instances throughout 2021 and 2022, Russia imposed heavy fines on Google for various violations.

However, despite the bankruptcy filing of Google’s Russian subsidiary, essential services like Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and Google Play continue to be accessible in Russia.

It’s worth noting that fines for Google, YouTube, and other tech firms operating in Russia seem to have been resolved recently.
