Exciting Ventures Unveiled
A series of events at Cambrian College is set to kick off with the Research Showcase inside the college’s eDome. This showcase will shine a spotlight on various research projects and partnerships developed over the past year. Notable among these projects is a groundbreaking 3D-printed ribcage designed for medical simulation at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. In addition, initiatives such as characterizing explosives accurately and a device for efficiently clearing debris from mining drillholes will be unveiled.
Driving Real-World Solutions
Expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration between industry partners and the institution, Janneke Nicholls, Cambrian’s vice-president overseeing applied research, highlighted the trend of an increasing number of industry partners seeking Cambrian’s expertise to tackle real-time challenges through applied research. This approach enables companies to discover viable solutions, scout emerging talent, and ensures academic and research staff, as well as students, remain abreast of cutting-edge industry practices.
Achievement Through Partnership
Among the beneficiaries of these collaborations is Brandon Perron from Sudbury, a final-year student in the welding and fabrication technician program. Perron attributed his accelerated academic success to his involvement in various Cambrian R&D projects. Reflecting on his experience, Perron noted, “Through applied research, I’ve been able to engage in welding techniques beyond the scope of my program. This hands-on experience not only accelerated my learning but also facilitated my success in securing a job post-graduation, thanks to valuable references obtained through applied research.”
Perron encouraged fellow students to seize the opportunity to engage in applied research, emphasizing the profound learning experience and supportive environment akin to a familial bond.
Innovation Week Extravaganza
Research and Innovation Week will encompass a live episode of Cambrian R&D’s podcast, Unlikely Innovators, alongside the Student Innovation Challenge Powered by RBC Future Launch. Additionally, a special funding announcement concerning the animation and game design industries is anticipated.
This confluence of events promises to foster creativity, knowledge exchange, and industry-academic partnerships, propelling Cambrian College and its affiliates to new heights of achievement.
