Amazon AI Business Milestone

Amazon’s artificial intelligence (AI) division within Amazon Web Services (AWS) has surpassed a $25 billion annual revenue run rate, experiencing triple-digit year-over-year growth, according to the earnings report released on July 30. AWS overall reported a 37% increase in net sales to $42.2 billion for the second quarter, marking its fastest growth in 18 quarters.

AWS operating income reached $16.6 billion, up 64% from $10.2 billion year-over-year, resulting in an operating margin increase from 33% to 39%. The unit’s backlog of contracted work has risen to $496 billion, equivalent to nearly three years of current AWS revenue.

Amazon’s market value stands at approximately $2.82 trillion, with shares priced around $261, representing a forward earnings ratio of about 28 times. For Amazon to achieve a 12% annual growth rate through 2031, it would require annual net income to double, reflecting the company’s reliance on the rapid expansion of its AI segment.
