Amazon.com has announced that Delta Air Lines will be a customer for its new Amazon Leo satellite broadband service. This deal makes Delta Amazon’s second major partner, following JetBlue, which signed a contract in September 2022.
As of October 2023, Amazon has launched nine batches of its Leo satellites, totaling 241 satellites in orbit, while SpaceX’s Starlink operates with over 10,000 satellites. Amazon plans to launch more than 3,000 Leo satellites by mid-2026, but predictions suggest Delta’s rollout might not begin until 2028, significantly lagging behind Starlink’s existing customer base, which includes United, Southwest, and Alaska Airlines.
Despite Amazon’s substantial annual revenue of $717 billion, it is striving to penetrate the satellite internet market to enhance its growth, as the service could potentially add up to 1% to its total revenue growth rate.
