Amazon Invests $25 Billion in Anthropic AI
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has announced plans to invest up to $25 billion in AI start-up Anthropic. This investment includes an immediate $5 billion injection, while the remaining $20 billion is contingent upon achieving specific commercial milestones. The deal significantly increases Amazon’s stake, estimated to be 16% to 18%, potentially worth up to $144 billion if Anthropic achieves an $800 billion valuation.
As part of the agreement, Anthropic will utilize Amazon’s custom AI chips and commit to spending over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies over the next decade. This collaborative effort will give Anthropic access to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity to enhance its Claude AI models.
