**Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)** has introduced its Instinct MI455X AI accelerator, featuring 432 gigabytes (GB) of HBM4 memory, a 50% increase from the previous MI355X model’s 288 GB of HBM3E. This update positions AMD competitively against Nvidia’s new Vera Rubin GPUs, which also target high-memory demands for AI models.
CEO **Lisa Su** announced that the Helios rack system, utilizing the new chips, is currently in production with shipments expected to start later this quarter. The Helios system will support a total of 31 terabytes of HBM4 memory across its rack.
In Q2, AMD’s data center segment generated $6.7 billion in revenue, representing a 107% year-over-year increase, while overall company revenue reached a record $11.5 billion, up 50%. However, rising memory prices, highlighted by SK Hynix’s 76% operating margin and significant price increases for AI server memory, present challenges for AMD’s profit margins moving forward.
