NuScale Power Corporation (SMR) is projected to reduce its loss to 64 cents per share in 2026, reflecting a 70.5% year-over-year improvement. Despite this positive outlook, SMR shares have declined 39.9% in 2026, currently priced at $8.51, close to a 52-week low of $7.21. Other advanced nuclear companies, Oklo Inc. (OKLO) and NANO Nuclear Energy (NNE), have also experienced significant declines of 49.5% and 33.8%, respectively, this year.
NuScale has only generated $0.1 million in revenue in Q2 2026, a sharp drop from $8.1 million a year earlier, highlighting the challenges of transitioning from development to commercialization. The company holds around $1.9 billion in cash and investments, positioning it well financially, but it still requires binding customer contracts and project financing to achieve meaningful sales. Current developments include discussions for a power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority and advancing a project in Romania.
NuScale remains the sole small modular reactor developer with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) design certification. Its strategic readiness contrasts with competitors facing significant regulatory and engineering challenges. While SMR offers a potentially attractive entry point near its 52-week low, substantial execution risks remain, warranting cautious investor interest.
