Anthropic Files for IPO Amid Rapid Growth
Anthropic, the AI lab known for its assistant Claude, filed confidentially with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1 for an initial public offering (IPO). The company’s valuation has surged to approximately $965 billion, drawing substantial interest from investors as it positions itself alongside notable rivals like OpenAI. This strategic move follows Anthropic’s impressive revenue run rate, which escalated from $14 billion in February to $47 billion recently.
Both Amazon and Alphabet are significant investors in Anthropic, with Amazon committing up to $20 billion and Alphabet planning an investment of up to $40 billion. Amazon has previously invested $8 billion in the AI firm, while Alphabet’s stake might now exceed $100 billion after its initial $3 billion investment. To support its growth, Anthropic has also pledged to spend $100 billion on Amazon Web Services over the next decade.
