Broadcom has launched the BCM68850, the first 50G ITU-PON home gateway chipset with an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) and native Wi-Fi 8 compatibility. This product aims to enhance connectivity for AI-intensive applications and is part of Broadcom’s AI expansion strategy into broadband edge infrastructure. The BCM68850 operates as an “edge AI” compute node, supporting local AI inference and improving the efficiency of data management.
For fiscal Q2 2026, Broadcom expects AI revenues of $10.7 billion, a 140% increase year-over-year, while semiconductor revenues are projected at $14.8 billion, a 76% year-over-year growth. This reflects Broadcom’s push to capture a significant share of the AI market, with total AI chip revenue expected to exceed $100 billion by 2027.
Broadcom is facing competition from NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices, both of which have rapid growth in AI hardware and infrastructure. Broadcom’s share price has increased 21.9% year-to-date, outperforming the broader tech sector’s growth of 19.4%. The company currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
