BYD (OTC: BYDDY) reported sales of 440,293 new energy vehicles in August, marking an 18% increase year-over-year and a 5% rise from July. Notably, overseas sales surged by 134.5%, while domestic sales fell by 14.3%.
In the first half of 2026, BYD’s overseas shipments increased by nearly 68%, making up about 44% of total sales. In Spain, BYD sold 11,943 battery-electric vehicles through August, a near 50% year-over-year increase, surpassing Tesla’s 9,733 sales.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) delivered 480,126 vehicles in Q2, a 25% increase year-over-year, but faced a 12% decline in China during August, selling only 50,047 vehicles. Tesla’s total sales in China through August reached 316,251 vehicles, facing increasing competition from BYD in international markets.
