Cattle Maintain Thursday’s Gains at Midday

As of Thursday midday, live cattle futures have risen by 67 cents to $1.37, with cash sales in the South reaching $260 and northern trades between $408-410. Feeder cattle futures also saw gains between $1.35 and $1.95. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 52 cents to $373.14 on May 12.

The latest weekly Export Sales report indicates 7,538 metric tons (MT) of beef sold for 2026 during the week ending May 7, marking the second-lowest sales figure of the year. Beef shipments totaled 12,531 MT, a decrease from the previous year. Additionally, USDA reported federated inspected cattle slaughter at 108,000 head on Wednesday, bringing the weekly total to 318,000, which is 5,000 head above last week but 20,727 head below the same week last year.
