Cattle Market Anticipates Recovery on Tuesday Following Monday’s Decline

Live cattle futures declined by $1.37 to $2 on recent trading, with Dec 25 closing at $214.200. In contrast, cash trade improved late last week, reaching $220 in the Southern U.S. and $215 in the north, up from previous prices of $208-210. On Monday, the OKC auction recorded estimated sales of 4,500 head, with feeder steers rising by $8-15 and heifers by $15-25. Meanwhile, calves increased by $20-30.

Export sales data showed 10,886 metric tons of beef sold during the week of October 23, marking a five-week low, while shipments fell to 12,684 metric tons. USDA reported that Wholesale Boxed Beef prices rose, with Choice boxes at $368.89 and Select boxes at $357.88. Federally inspected cattle slaughter was estimated at 115,000 head for Monday, 5,000 head lower than the previous week and 1,388 head shy of the same week last year.
