**Live Cattle Futures Decline Amid Cash Trade Activity**
On Thursday, live cattle futures dropped significantly, closing down between $2.35 and $3.05. The USDA reported cash trade with northern sales ranging from $378-$380 dressed and live action at $238-$240, while southern trades were priced at $237-$238. Feeder cattle futures also saw declines of $3.35 to $4.40 at the close, with the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropping by $3.55 to $365.52.
USDA’s Export Sales data indicated beef sales for 2026 at 7,973 MT during the week ending July 9, marking the fourth lowest total for the year. Shipment figures were reported at 10,354 MT, a calendar year low. Additionally, wholesale boxed beef prices fell, with Choice boxes down $2.90 to $369.34 and Select down $3.49 to $355.69. The USDA noted a total of 433,000 head of cattle slaughtered so far this week, an increase of 3,000 head from the previous week but 29,283 head lower than the same week last year.
