Live cattle futures declined by 97 cents to $1.65 at midday, with cash trade reaching $256 in the South and similar bids in the North. The Friday Fed Cattle Exchange auction recorded sales of $256 on just 40 out of 1,008 head offered. Feeder cattle futures also fell, decreasing by $4.07 to $4.47 across most contracts.
In Mexico, the Thursday APHIS update reported 2,072 active cases of New World Screwworm, with 182 cases in Tamaulipas, 105 in Nuevo Leon, and 19 in Coahuila, all near the US border. Meanwhile, the weekly Export Sales report indicated 13,211 MT of beef sold for 2026, a four-week high, with shipments reaching 14,985 MT, a 12-week high. USDA estimated Thursday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 110,000 head, totaling 329,000 head for the week, down 35,066 from the same week last year.
