Live cattle futures are trading higher on June 26, with prices up $1.30 to $1.55. Cash sales reached $260 in the South, while northern trades were reported at $408-415 dressed and $265 live. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose by 9 cents to $373.23. USDA estimated the federally inspected cattle slaughter on Thursday at 108,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 426,000, which is 4,000 more than last week but 34,262 fewer than the same week last year.
In related news, the Thursday APHIS update indicated 1,831 active cases of New World Screwworm in Mexico, including 144 cases in Tamaulipas and 62 in Nuevo Leon, with proximity to the U.S. border noted. Additionally, China has renewed export licenses for U.S. beef plants after revoking over 400 licenses earlier this week.
