On Monday, August 14, live cattle futures experienced mixed results, closing 92 cents higher to 20 cents lower. Cash cattle prices ranged from $225 to $228 in the North and $228 in the South. Feeder cattle futures concluded with prices $1.60 lower to 40 cents higher, and the CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped to $344.43.
According to NASS Crop Progress data, the U.S. pasture rating decreased to 23% good/excellent, a 2% decline from the previous week. Wholesale boxed beef prices rose, with Choice boxes increasing by $4.27 to $379.57 and Select boxes up $13.02 to $364.26. Monday’s USDA estimated slaughter was 97,000 head, up 1,000 from last week but down 2,983 year-over-year.
