Live cattle futures concluded Thursday with nearby February contracts up 15 cents at $242.500, while other contracts fell between 30 to 50 cents. Cash trade remains quiet, with no sales reported from the Fed Cattle Exchange auction for the 1,272 head offered. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 49 cents to $373.87.
In agricultural updates, the USDA reported a total of 15,660 metric tons (MT) sold in the week of February 5, marking a three-week low. South Korean buyers accounted for 7,800 MT, while Japan purchased 1,900 MT. Total shipments stood at 11,672 MT, the lowest level in four weeks.
Additionally, the APHIS reported one new active case of New World Screwworm in Tamaulipas, bringing the total active cases in the state to three. USDA estimated a federally inspected cattle slaughter of 115,000 head for Thursday, totaling 454,000 head for the week, up 4,000 from last week but down 745 from the same week last year.
