On Monday, live cattle futures reported gains between 75 cents and $2.05, while feeder cattle futures increased by $3.12 to $3.625. Cash trade indicated a slight decline last week, settling between $255 and $258. A new world screwworm case was reported in Mexico, 25 miles from the U.S. border.
The USDA estimated Monday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 104,000 head, down by 10,635 head compared to the same Monday last year. Wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed, with Choice boxes up $1.36 to $392.83 and Select down 9 cents to $383.09.
In market closures, June live cattle ended at $249.00, August at $240.60, and October at $232.33. August feeder cattle closed at $351.55, September at $348.68, and October at $345.30.
