Corn Prices Rise at the Start of the Week

Corn futures increased by 1 ¼ to 5 ¾ cents on Monday, with the CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price rising 5 ¾ cents to $4.25 1/4. Meanwhile, the Export Inspections report indicated that 1.644 million metric tons (MMT) of corn were shipped in the week ending April 23, representing a 1.33% decrease compared to the same week last year and a 5.67% drop from the prior week. Major destinations included Mexico (388,791 MT), Colombia (234,765 MT), and South Korea (196,816 MT).

According to the NASS Crop Progress report, as of Sunday, 25% of the U.S. corn crop was planted—6% ahead of the five-year average of 19%. Additionally, 7% of the crop was emerged, surpassing the typical pace by 3 percentage points.

In related transactions, a South Korean importer acquired 65,000 MT of wheat in a private deal on Friday.
