Pre-market futures show a decline in major indexes this morning, with the Dow down 226 points (-0.47%), S&P 500 down 37 points (-0.56%), Nasdaq down 181 points (-0.75%), and small-cap Russell 2000 down 19 points (-0.78%). This follows a Monday trading session where indexes rose by about half a percentage point.
Durable Goods Orders Report
Preliminary Durable Goods Orders for February have dropped by 1.4%, marking the weakest month since October 2022 and falling short of expectations by 30 basis points. January’s report was revised from 0.0% to -0.5%. Excluding transportation, orders increased by 0.8%, the strongest result since December 2025, while non-defense orders excluding aircraft grew 0.6% despite a prior month’s decline to -0.4%.
Market Outlook Amid Iran Tensions
President Trump has given Iran until this evening to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit route for 20% of global oil, or face severe military action. Currently, WTI crude prices are up 2.4% to approximately $115 per barrel, and Brent is up 0.7% to $110 per barrel. The market’s reaction hinges on developments in Iran, which may significantly affect oil prices and corporate earnings projections going forward.
