Amazon’s Satellite Internet Expansion

Amazon is set to enhance its reach in satellite internet through its Amazon Leo project, formerly known as Project Kuiper. The company currently has over 240 satellites in orbit, with plans to expand this number to 3,200 in the coming years. The launch of its internet service is targeted for mid-2026, with commitments already in place to serve companies like JetBlue and Delta.

To support these ambitions, Amazon plans to rely on Blue Origin, the space company owned by founder Jeff Bezos, for satellite launches starting in 2027. Additionally, Amazon is reportedly in discussions to acquire Globalstar, which would provide important spectrum licenses for direct smartphone connectivity but faces challenges due to Apple‘s existing stake in the firm.
