Franklin Templeton, Inc. (BEN) announced it will acquire a majority stake in Stoneshield Capital, a European real estate platform, with the transaction expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals. This acquisition will increase Franklin’s total assets under management (AUM) in Europe to $13 billion and overall AUM to $82 billion, as Stoneshield brings $9 billion in AUM.

Stoneshield specializes in living and student housing, hospitality, digital infrastructure, and critical infrastructure, enhancing Franklin’s European investment offerings across Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the UK, and Luxembourg. The deal is part of Franklin’s strategy to grow its alternatives business, which has seen a CAGR of 16.7% over the past five years, and will push its total alternatives AUM to over $300 billion.

Franklin Templeton has been expanding its alternatives platform through acquisitions and partnerships, notably enhancing its European private-credit capabilities in 2025. The ongoing growth in demand for private credit and infrastructure investments is central to Franklin’s objective of diversifying its asset management portfolio and driving long-term revenue.
