Hogs Aim for a Strong Finish to the Week

Lean hog futures saw declines on Thursday, with contract prices dropping between 35 to 80 cents, while the nearby October contract rose by 22 cents. The CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 59 cents to $85.81 as of September 14. Open interest increased by 1,340 contracts, indicating modest selling pressure.

The USDA reported 30,104 metric tons of pork sold for 2026 in the week ending September 10, with shipments at 27,591 metric tons—marking a 9-week low. Thursday’s federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 493,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.951 million, which is 9,363 head higher than the same period last year. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value increased $1.19 to $87.54, with declines in the loin and rib primals.
