Steel Dynamics, Inc. (STLD) projects third-quarter 2026 earnings of $5.34-$5.38 per share, a significant increase from $3.69 in the previous quarter and $2.74 a year earlier. This positive outlook is attributed to enhanced steel metal margins, record shipments, higher selling prices, and reduced scrap costs.

The company anticipates a nearly 50% increase in its backlog compared to the previous year, driven by strong demand in sectors like commercial construction, data centers, and healthcare. Steel fabrication earnings are expected to rise modestly despite tighter metal spreads, while metals recycling earnings may decline due to lower metal spreads and shipments.

Steel Dynamics has repurchased approximately $261 million of its common stock, equivalent to under 1% of its total shares. The company is set to report its third-quarter results after market close on October 19, 2026.
