Hogs See Gains in Monday’s Market

On Monday, lean hog futures saw minor gains of up to 50 cents, coinciding with a reported USDA national base hog price of $91.28, an increase of $2.32 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also rose, closing at $87.95, up 36 cents.

In the same report, the USDA noted that the pork carcass cutout value increased by $1.79 to $97.40 per cwt, with federally inspected hog slaughter estimated at 489,000 head, surpassing both last week’s figures by 28,000 head and the same week last year by 660 head.

For specific futures, April 26 Hogs closed at $93.700 (up $0.025), May 26 Hogs at $98.650 (up $0.375), and June 26 Hogs at $108.325 (up $0.500).
