**Lean Hog Futures Report – September 18, 2023**
Lean hog futures closed at $1.25, with October 2026 hogs at $78.15 (up $0.05), December 2026 at $69.80 (up $1.25), and February 2027 at $71.35 (up $1.20). The USDA reported a national base hog price of $80.35, a decrease of $1.41 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also fell by $1 to $84.02 as of September 14.
In related metrics, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $1.93 to $88.91, with the picnic primal being the only segment to report a decline. Federally inspected hog slaughter on Monday reached an estimated 493,000 head, surpassing last week’s figures by 11,000 head and exceeding the same Monday last year by 8,310 head.
