On June 26, lean hog futures closed higher, with contracts rising between 35 cents and $1.80. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $95.57, an increase of $1.71 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also rose, reaching $91.51, up 11 cents.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value increased by 84 cents to $100.59 per hundredweight. The estimated hog slaughter for Tuesday was 487,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 984,000 head—an increase of 17,165 head compared to the same week last year.
