Lean hog futures were trading with contracts ranging from $1.15 to $1.85 on Wednesday. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $94.50, while the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 18 cents to $90.70 on May 22.
The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value remained steady at $98.85 per cwt. The agency estimated Tuesday’s federally inspected hog slaughter at 468,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 469,000 head—down 14,576 head compared to the same week last year.
For June 26, hog prices reached $97.275 (up $1.150), July 26 prices hit $102.000 (up $1.875), and August 26 prices came in at $100.550 (up $1.500).
