Meta Platforms has hired Ruoming Pang, a former AI leader at Apple, to join its Superintelligence Labs unit, marking a significant move in the AI sector. Pang, who previously led Apple’s foundation model team, reportedly received a compensation package in the tens of millions.

This recruitment follows Meta’s $14 billion investment in Scale AI and the addition of prominent figures from the tech industry. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is known to offer compensation packages of up to $100 million to attract top talent.

Pang’s exit highlights ongoing challenges in Apple’s AI strategy as the company reconfigures its leadership structure. Despite Pang leaving, Apple’s stock remained stable, rising 0.1% to $210.20 during premarket trading, while Meta’s shares edged up 0.5% to $721.65.
