Nokia Targets Future of AI-Powered Connectivity
Nokia has announced significant advancements in its networking technology, with plans to develop sixth-generation (6G) radio access networks capable of handling an anticipated surge in digital data traffic driven by artificial intelligence. According to Aetha Consulting, generative AI is already causing more than double the uplink data traffic compared to ordinary mobile traffic, a trend projected to grow by tenfold.
The company launched its first commercial AI-RAN platform last month, showing a 20% improvement in spectral efficiency over existing systems. Nokia projects further gains, expecting 50% efficiency improvements next year and a total of 100% by 2028. This positioning is critical as the 6G networking equipment market is projected to exceed $50 billion by the early 2030s, with growth rates exceeding 20% annually.
Nokia is collaborating with Nvidia, whose AI hardware will support the new technology, while Dell’s AI-optimized servers will complement the infrastructure. With last year’s revenues at approximately $23 billion, Nokia is strategically poised to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI-driven mobile data solutions.
