NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:NXPI) is shifting its focus towards “physical AI,” as stated by CEO Rafael Sotomayor at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. The company aims to leverage its strengths in security and real-time processing for intelligent edge devices that can autonomously operate in various applications, including automotive, factories, and infrastructure.
NXP anticipates a significant market shift to software-defined vehicles, which represent more than half of its automotive revenue. In Q2, these growth drivers—encompassing autonomy-related radar, electrification, and connectivity—accounted for 50% of automotive revenue and grew by over 20%. The company also projects data-center revenue to rise to $500 million this year, up from $200 million last year, with continued growth anticipated due to increasing design wins.
As part of its strategy, NXP plans to adopt a more asset-light manufacturing model, aiming for an external to internal production ratio of 80% to 20%. The firm remains on track with its 2027 revenue goals, bolstered by current customer engagement and design wins.
