Total S&P 500 earnings for Q3 are projected to increase by 24% year-over-year, driven by an 11.3% rise in revenues, with 14 of the 16 Zacks sectors expected to show positive earnings growth. Notably, six sectors are forecasted to achieve double-digit growth. This performance marks the eighth consecutive quarter of double-digit earnings growth for the index.
The revisions trend remains favorable, with half of the 16 Zacks sectors seeing upward adjustments to earnings estimates since the start of Q3. The only sector expected to report a decline is Conglomerates, with a significant decrease of 35.4%. Meanwhile, the Tech sector continues to be a major contributor to overall growth, with companies like Micron Technology and Nvidia playing pivotal roles; excluding these firms, the sector’s growth would slow to 23.7%.
The Energy sector experienced the most significant upward revisions in earnings outlook, largely due to high oil prices influenced by geopolitical factors in the Persian Gulf. Other sectors with positive estimate revisions include Aerospace, Industrial Products, Autos, and Finance, indicating a broadly favorable earnings environment heading into Q4.
