On Thursday, the major U.S. indices showed positive movement with the S&P 500 rising 0.65%, the Dow Jones increasing 0.13%, and the Nasdaq up 1.15%. September E-mini S&P futures climbed 0.68%, while September E-mini Nasdaq futures increased by 1.18%. This rally was supported by a favorable Producer Price Index (PPI) report that indicated no month-over-month change and a year-over-year increase of 4.7%, both below market expectations.

The PPI report contributed to a decline in the 10-year Treasury note yield by 4 basis points to 4.639%, also reducing the probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September to 35% from 40%. In oil markets, West Texas Intermediate crude prices fell over 2%, attributed to a lack of military tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Trump administration’s shift towards a naval blockade strategy regarding Iran.

Key company performances included a significant drop in Cisco Systems shares of over 8% due to disappointing guidance, while Salesforce stock rose more than 4% after a favorable rating from JPMorgan. Overall, 85% of the 446 S&P 500 companies that reported Q2 earnings exceeded estimates, contributing to an anticipated earnings growth of 32% in the sector.
