Walmart (WMT) reported adjusted earnings of $0.81 per share for the fiscal quarter ending Thursday, exceeding expectations and marking a 19.1% increase year-over-year. Revenue reached $187.9 billion, surpassing estimates and reflecting a 5.9% growth compared to the previous year. The company raised its fiscal 2027 outlook, anticipating a net sales growth of 4% to 5% and projecting adjusted EPS between $2.80 to $2.87.

Despite these positive results, Walmart shares fell sharply as investors reacted to slower U.S. sales trends and cautious near-term guidance. Comparable U.S. sales, excluding fuel, rose by only 2.6%, below the expected 3.1%. The company’s trading multiple is at a high 37.6X forward earnings, leading to a reassessment of its valuation due to the disappointing sales figures.

Overall, while Walmart’s growth trajectory remains intact, investor sentiment was affected by the weaker-than-expected sales performance and heightened market expectations.
