Wheat Market Sees Decline on Friday, Yet Recovers from Low Points

On Friday, the wheat market faced declines, with Chicago SRW wheat dropping 1 to 3 ¾ cents, closing at $7.03 1/4, and KC HRW wheat declining 1 to 5 ¾ cents, closing at $7.62. This marks a weekly drop of 11 cents for December Chicago SRW and 21 ¾ cents for December KC HRW. Additionally, the Minneapolis spring wheat saw losses of 6 ¾ to 8 ¾ cents, with December down 27 ¾ cents this week.

As of September 22, spec funds in Chicago wheat futures increased their net short positions by 8,968 contracts to a total of 13,144 contracts, while managed money in KC wheat trimmed their net long by 4,015 contracts to 41,743 contracts. USDA reports indicate U.S. wheat sales commitments are at 9.449 million metric tons, down 31% from last year, representing 45% of the USDA’s export projection.

In related developments, several Middle Eastern countries, including Turkey, Egypt, and India, are in negotiations regarding the Black Sea and safe shipment, amidst ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure. NOAA forecasts predict 2 to 4 inches of rain expected in parts of Texas to Nebraska over the next week, which may improve soil moisture but could impede planting progress.
