Wheat Prices Rise Amid Increased Export Activity

On December 18, wheat shipments reached 627,443 metric tons (23.05 million bushels), marking a 28.2% increase from the previous week and a 46.79% rise from the same week last year. The top export destinations included Mexico (98,816 MT), Japan (73,777 MT), Thailand (69,201 MT), and China (68,559 MT). Total marketing year shipments have now reached 14.75 million metric tons (542.1 million bushels), a 22.89% increase year-over-year.

Meanwhile, export sales for the week ending December 4 were recorded at 381,532 MT, below the expected range of 300,000-600,000 MT but still up 31.46% from the same week last year. In trading, Chicago SRW futures rose by 4 to 5 cents, with March 26 CBOT wheat priced at $5.14.

In other developments, Algeria has issued a tender for 50,000 MT of durum wheat and speculators in CBT wheat futures increased their net short position to 46,069 contracts as of December 19.
