Meta Platforms Unveils AI Expansion Plan
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META), has released a comprehensive 6,500-word manifesto outlining the company’s ambitions to develop agentic artificial intelligence that aims to provide users with personal agents capable of understanding their goals and needs. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify revenue sources beyond online advertising, which accounted for 97.6% of Meta’s revenue in Q2.
Despite achieving a 28% year-over-year increase in revenue during the second quarter, Meta Platforms reported an 8% decline in operating income, partly due to significant investments in AI and the $4.6 billion operating loss from its Reality Labs division. Zuckerberg’s proposal suggests that successful implementation of AI could unlock new income streams, but challenges remain as competition intensifies from established tech giants like Amazon and Alphabet, who dominate the cloud computing market.
