The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi, the Cree Nation Government, the Grand Council of the Crees, and Gold Fields have signed an Impact Benefit Agreement for the Windfall mining project in Quebec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. This agreement aims to provide mutual benefits related to financial, operational, environmental, and social commitments, ensuring the development positively impacts Cree communities.

Gold Fields became the sole owner of the Windfall project in 2024 after acquiring Osisko Mining for $2.2 billion. The project boasts measured and indicated resources of 9.5 million tonnes at 10.5 g/t gold and 5.2 g/t silver, totaling 3.2 million ounces of gold and 1.6 million ounces of silver. Inferred resources are estimated at 13 million tonnes, grading 8.6 g/t gold and 4.7 g/t silver. Gold Fields plans to commence production by late 2026 or early 2027, targeting an annual output of approximately 300,000 ounces.
