Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) has unveiled a long-wheelbase variant of its Model Y, which is now available for orders in the U.S. The Model Y L Premium Launch Series, priced starting at $61,990 for the six-seat configuration, fills a gap in Tesla’s SUV lineup aimed at the competitive electric vehicle market. This model previously launched in China in mid-2025 and has now made its North American debut.
The long-wheelbase Model Y measures 195.9 inches in overall length—7.6 inches longer than the standard version—and features an extended wheelbase of 119.7 inches, enhancing interior space, particularly in the third row. It weighs approximately 4,600 pounds and includes premium features such as vehicle-to-load power capability and a new suspension system. Deliveries are anticipated to commence this fall as automakers like Rivian and Lucid expand their offerings in the midsize electric SUV segment.
As of now, Rivian’s R2 midsize SUV, launched on June 9, 2026, is priced at $57,990, while the entry-level R2 Standard is set to debut in 2027 starting at $48,490. Lucid Group is also planning to introduce new models later this year, expected to come in under $50,000. With continued product expansions among competitors, Tesla’s latest model aims to maintain its relevance in a rapidly evolving market.
