Amazon Q2 Financial Highlights
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported a revenue increase of 20% to $200.6 billion for the second quarter of 2023, surpassing analyst expectations of $196.4 billion. Operating income rose 43% to $27.5 billion. The North America segment grew by 16%, marking its fastest growth in five years, while the international segment saw a 15% increase to $42.2 billion.
Key drivers for this growth include an uptick in grocery sales and faster delivery times, with over 40% of Prime orders being delivered same-day or overnight. The company’s cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS), delivered a 37% revenue increase, signaling a broader market trend among competitors like Alphabet and Microsoft.
Additionally, Amazon reported a $25 billion annual revenue run rate in both its AI and chips businesses, with triple-digit year-over-year growth contributing to the company’s overall momentum. Prime Day’s shift to June attributed approximately 500 basis points to e-commerce growth in the quarter.
